Background / history of ASM

Hi,

I've been using ASM for various projects over the year. Next week I'm
doing a presentation at JavaZone in Oslo on how code coverage,
profiling and mutation testing tools work.

While working on the example code and the slide deck, it occurred to
me that while I'm an extremely happy ASM user, I don't really know
much about the project, who started it, why it was started, how the
project has changed over time, etc.

A quick look at the web site didn't reveal much, but with the help of
Eugene, I did find some info in the papers linked from the font page
of the project.

I figure I'm probably not the only one looking for info like this.
Understanding the history and background of a project is often
important in evaluating a pice of technology for use in an
organization.

Perhaps adding a  "Why we're here" page on the web site could be a
help?  I'm imagining a short document telling the creation story and
history of the project. Covering the "who we are" part wouldn't hurt
either.
