Hello!

That section explains a lot... I think what my problem might be is that
ASM delivers type signatures as the structures specified in the JVMS,
but I was trying to parse them into the structures specified in the JLS.
That mismatch meant that I was fighting the API the whole time.

I'll redesign the AST and try again.
