RE: Clients hanging..

You don't specify what version you are using, and don't provide
any stack traces, so its difficult to diagnose.

If you are running 0.7.6.x there have been several issues reported
against it relating to deadlocks in the tcp and rmi connectors.
Some (hopefully all) of these have been corrected in the 0.7.7-alpha-1 
release.
