About startup time:

Instead of GBs per minute we would be in the order of GBs per >second<
if the VM simply provided a non-portable binary snapshot mechanism.
Handles to OS resources such as files and sockets would be lost, of
course, but that wouldn't matter to us.

Does such a thing already exist in some VM implementation?
