Hard to disagree with that, (besides "objects"). But what defines a Database API?

Does the API have to be generic (crud commands) as opposed to domain specific (AddCustomerCommand, SetCustomerCreditLimit)?

Must the API be language/platform independent?

Must the API support ad-hoc queries?

Must the database be remotely accessible?



I say NO to all of the above. A database is an information store. A database engine provides access to it while maintaining it's integrity.
