The reference implementation of SRFI-1 (the one that uses let-optionals, and is still on the web) allows (iota count start), with step defaulting to 1. That usage is not implied by the SRFI text, but other Schemes (for example guile and Chicken) allow it (presumably because they use the ref. implementation). SISC apparently modified the ref. implementation to eliminate let-optionals, and in the process disallowed (iota count start).
