The response from our Community was pretty loud
in disapproval of the "braintree" name for the proposed
Apache project. The feedback on the Apache incubator
was similarly negative (mostly to do with TM concerns,
as well as an aversion to using proper nouns or place
names as project names).

We are all very frustrated about the last few months, and
I know we're very anxious to get going with an Apache project.
I feel we've been stuck in a little bit of a "naming hell",
and I'm sincerely sorry for not doing a better job in getting
us through it.

I'd like to give it another go, and in short order, go with
the best (name) of what's around and get going. To that
end, I've created a separate alias (so as not to bog down
the users lists with naming debates for those not
interested) for proposals and discussion on names. The
alias is: "[email protected]", and you're able
to subscribe or view the archives via:
<http://lists.jini.org/listinfo.cgi/apache-proj-name-jini.org>

If you've got ideas or opinions -- please join in. Now!

I don't want this to drag on any longer than it needs to,
so I'm really hoping this is short lived and we come up
with an acceptable (no, scratch that) EXCITING :-) name
by next week.

I believe Apache is waiting to welcome us -- so let's pick
a good name and get going.

Thanks again for your patience and support.

Join the list and let's start discussing.

-Jim
