Is Jini Dead? Where do I find useful documentation?

I've spent a good amount of time playing with Jini lately, but I've been
having problems with the simplest things.  For example, the Hello example
the comes with Jini 2.1 doesn't seem to work and there is little to no
mention of this anywhere on the internet it seems.  

I have installed Jini 2.1 and followed the directions to start the Hello
example (Using JERI) word-for-word. However, when I attempt to start the
client using the provided scripts, I get the following:

I've attempted to look for help using google and other forums, but to no
avail. The documentation for jini and helpful links seem to be falling by
the wayside as the time goes on since I have encountered a ton of broken
links on the jini site itself. Anyone who can lend a hand here would be much
appreciated.

Similar problems were encountered when I attempted to use Rio following the
instructions EXACTLY.  It failed to mention that there are several things
one must do first before following even the simplest example (so I moved on)
but that's another story.  Long story short, the broken links, lack of good
examples, poor documentation in Jini and related project and lack of recent
chatter on this technology is disconcerting to say the least.  Does anyone
either a) know how to fix my problem above or b) have a good SIMPLE Jini
client/service example that actually works?  Thanks!
