Hi Sabitha,

In fact, it depends of the kind of connection you want to implement.

First-party CTI needs to direct-connect the computer and the phone.
Third-party CTI connects telephony and computer only at a server level.

I think the second one is the right solution to implement in this case.
But I don't know if it is possible using JTAPI and the hostel PBX.

It works the following way :

- Telephony network is based on a PBX and phones,
- A connection is established between PBX and a CTI server (using TCP/IP
LAN)
- The software you have to develop runs at the server level and monitors
activities like inbound calls
- When it is detected, you get the caller ID and the calling ID, and
check if it exists in database,
- If yes, you transfer call to the right extension,
- If not, the call is cancelled

It is possible if you have a PBX compatible with Microsoft TAPI 3.0.

Another solution, only if you have an Avaya PBX, is to use CentreVu
Computer Telephony and the included JTAPI client.

Please let me know if you need additional information. I worked before
for CTI implementation in Avaya PSO France, so I have an experience in
this kind of projects.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hello,

I'm developing an application to trace the anonymous calls of college
hostel.

the project flow is:

telephone of the hostel will be connected to a computer.

computer stores a list of authorised phone numbers.

when a call arrives caller-id will be detected by the computer.

simultaneously the number will be checked with those in the database.

if the number matches with the same, telephone in the students room will
be
connected to receive call.
Calls received from numbers other than those on the call acceptance list
will not be delivered.

I'm new to this JTAPI stuff. how can i connect telephone with computer
other
than modem? i searched and found out that modem could not be used for
this
project and some recommended tapi telephony card.

Now really looking for help or suggestions and if possible any good
solution from the Gurus of Java.

Hoping for an early and fruitfull response.

Thanks in advance.

Sabitha Aboobacker.
