Hi, sorry for the late reply.

Yes, between my two bug reports I switched from debian to gentoo. Sorry if 
this has complicated things for you.

I do not have access to my machine anymore until in two or three weeks time 
(am on field assignment) so will only be able to follow your suggestions then. 
Apologies for the delay. Will post output of your suggested commands at that 
time.

btw I recall that compiling the sablevm with -pipe -O2 crashed my machine as 
it used up all the swap. Compiling without the -pipe but with -O2 only worked. 
Perhaps this is a reason for the behaviour, haven't investigated that yet.
