original story estimates

We are currently working with a customized 0.7b7 and would like to 
figure out how to maintain our original story estimates even after a 
story is continued or moved.  I have tracked down a line in 
StoryContinuer.doContinueObject() that calls 
toStory.setEstimatedOriginalHours(null).  Can anyone elaborate on why 
that was important and what might happen if we eliminate it?
