I've been thinking about this one for a bit now, and I've come to a conclusion: I don't make a good open source manager. The only part of me that actually works on Open Source stuff is a coding perfectionist. Some guy who just wants to make all his code right. And it is a really bad idea for this guy to have to manage the work of other people in any way. As such, it's a bad idea for me to be in charge of the widgets cvs from here on out. It just won't work. Before it was easy, because I was the main contributor. But this isn't so anymore. So I suggest, that someone else take over this charge, and overall direction of the widgets tree. I absolutely love architectual design, but it's just not going to work. So my plan is this: 1. I submit my impl model suggestion to this list. Adam, Andrew, Charlie and Rod make a collective decision on if it's the way to go. If it is, I'm willing to do the changeover work, and move it into the revamp tree. If this is going to happen, it should happen as everything is moved into the cvs.xwt.org repository, to avoid the horrible mess involved with renaming things in the cvs. I'll submit this proposal tomorrow. 2. My last job as 'widget czar' will be to oversee the transition back to cvs.xwt.org. I'll do this regardless of what model is picked above. Unless someone else wants this job, in which case I'll happily hand it over. I'm willing to do this and make all the demos work as a guesture to make sure no-one thinks I'm 'abandoning my post'. 3. I focus my free efforts on this html implementation/rich text editor I've started. When done (more than a month, but before the end of May), this will be a reasonable xhtml renderer, and a fully functional rich text editor (with an xhtml model, of course). 4. There are lots of things I'd like to work on in the core. I also believe I have the ability to get my head around how it all works. If Adam is up for it, I'd really like to help in the reconstruction to introduce the resource model, and work quite a bit on the xml parser (bad html>xhtml without a slowdown or messing with the optimum path for well formed xml) . Overall, my plan is to put more hours into xwt development. I just want to spend those hours on development, not management. Someone else should do it, because I can promise you they'll be better than me. Don't worry, I'll still bitch about bad design decisions when I see them. Because I know you're all so fond of it. ;-) d _______________________________________________ http://lists.xwt.org/listinfo/dev
