Radio buttons come from the concept of a radio have a distinct channel, sometimes even selected by pushing buttons, thus the original radio buttons. Radioing would be distinct selection of channels (see the find station button on a radio). I just suggested 'radio'-x as the base, because it matches the function of 'mutually exclusive selection'. Even my Sony Clie's Franklin Thesaurus shows the radioing inflection of radio.
