a slap in the face takes about that long still i find it quite annoying,

the light bulb example is interesting, light bubs normal ones do take some
time to reach maximum light and that makes them more enjoyable to turn on
than say the fluorescent kind that blink and go on.

OK the key word here is "YOU" as "I" don't find them at all and find the
experience more smooth with them on, so stating that it is worse as a fact is
only based on your interpretation and personal opinion of it...

last thing do not use the word usability specially wen stating personal
opinions. if you want to back that with hard study proven evidence please do
but i don't think there is much of that, i bet if anything animations may
improve usability, (if they are done in an non obstructive way), as in the
ones used in oxygen.
An enjoyable experience is part of good usability.
So what is good usability to me is probably bad usability to you, but lets
abstain from using the word.
