Regarding the fileWatcher applet: the desktop file specifies
Icon=application-octet-stream so it is indeed intended to be a generic file
type icon.

Regarding the blurry appearance, could you please check, which sizes of the the
icons you have installed, e.g. by using these in a Konsole window:

find /usr/share/icons/oxygen | grep application-octet-stream
find /usr/share/icons/oxygen | grep edit-copy
find /usr/share/icons/oxygen | grep preferences-other
