Men like Alger Hiss were working to undermine American freedom. He worked to stop them. He was camera-unfriendly, to be sure. His tactics weren't always very nice. He over-extended his political capital. But so what? Does that make him wrong? If you don't like that Americans at the time recognized the Soviet threat, fine. But don't lump on Senator McCarthy a combined hatred for the behavior of a whole country. (I'm shocked that I actually agree with Mr. Pour on something.
