Bush and many others in the US government and its agencies. if GWB and Blaire lied knowingly once, they'll do it again. the blame is shifting to targets that are in a better strategic position to take it (e.g. the head of the CIA), and they probably feel that the principle of plausable deniability will keep them safe enough politically as long as they keep their stories coherent. the evidence was false. people knew that at the very _least_ it was more than likely to be false at the time it was presented as truth. and when the evidence came under public scrutiny it was immediately dismissed as false. at the VERY least, it was irresponsible to put such content into a State of the Union address. more likely it was simply a lie they thought they could get away with long enough, and have a politcally defensible enough position afterwards to get away with it. let's see if they were right about the latter part of that assumption. - -- Aaron J.
