IME, the same general motivation/callousness that causes a developer to indiscriminantly snap at new people is what causes other developers to harangue their fellow developers, especially ones they perceive as being "beneath them" either in seniority or skill or some other metric. i still see them as exhibiting "arrogant developer" syndrome. it's also interesting that people will sometimes snap at someone one day, but generally be OK. this does not make them an arrogant developer, it makes them human. when the behaviour becomes a consistent pattern then there is a problem. i also find it interesting that when i've watched people lunge at the throat of those that make a mistake, it more often reinforces the behaviour rather than deter it, probably due to sending the person into a highly defensive mode. it seems that those who do the lunging often expect others to "Just get it, damn it!", which is another form of that arrogance common amongst skilled knowledge workers. - -- Aaron J.
