the website has not been defaced, it was a purposeful decision. nor is it 
unprofessional, given the context of KDE which is an Open Source project, not 
a corporation. as such KDE isn't an entity that can or should be judged

are a lot of things could be considered "unprofessional" about Open Source 
projects, including the fundamental mechanics of Open Source as a

interestingly, corporations usually spend quite a bit of $$ on lobbying and 
political spin efforts. what do you think this is all about? when they do it, 
it's considered "professional". we don't have lobyists, but we do have a web 
site. so when we flex our lobbying muscle (as small as it is) it's suddenly 
unprofessional?

software patents are the single largest threat that exist for projects like 
KDE. to pretend otherwise is to stick our head in the sand. making a 
statement via the website for one day is pretty even handed given what's at 
stake for the project, IMHO.
