Yep, but thas is something different than a separate replacable window 
manager, in de Unix fasion.

Windows users can't convert to KDE, since it does not run on Windows (ok, it 
does using cygwin, but that is a different story)
Windows users can convert to Linux/BSD/whatever Unix flavour, en then choos 
KDE over Gnome or other environments.
KDE can help Windows-users to migrate to Unix-like platforms, but it is not a 
key player in that field.

You should look at it in the right perspective. There ar no 16 million 
Linux/etc users, not even 16 million computerusers. Besides, polls or surveys 
always us a small proportion of the terget audience. 
Look at election polls, ususally they use the choise of a few hundred people 
to determine which party will win the elections. Most of the times that party 
does win the election :o)

Which means that you use twm as a window manager.

Yup, but technically what is a user using when he/she uses Gnome as desktop 
environment, but uses only KDE applications. 
From a user perspective KDE, Gnome, Window maker, whatever, is the grafical 
environment that they are using.

Yup And I thought that you would know that this whas the context in which KDE 
is popular.

Yep, but it is not a linux poll, it is a window manager poll.Dunno if the 
adoption of Linux is slower then elsewere, but lots of people have acces to 
Linux through knoppix which shipped with c't Computer Magazine around april 
may this year (note that all environments were removed, except KDE), and 
Computer! Totaal (largest computre magazine in The Netherlands) often has 
articles about Linux and KDE.
