  Could be. Right now, Radeons up to the 9000 (R250, if my memory serves me 
correctly) are supported with 3D accelleration. The R300 and R350 cards, such 
as the Radeon 9700 (my card), 9200, 9500, 9600 and 9800 only get 2D 
accelleration in XFree86 4.3. Maybe XFree86 4.4 will improve this situation 
(anyone know whenn 4.4 is due?).
