Well I think it's bollocks that developers prefer GNOME. 

I do believe the whole developers prefer C thing is a myth especially
when we're talking about the style of C used for GTK+ programming...
there's no way that's preferable over Qt!

Besides, who could do without dcop and friends?

Sun put some work into making Java integrate with GNOME though I
haven't tried it...
