FreeBSD vs Red Hat 9: ARGH!

Hi,

The CS undergrad labs at McGill currently have about 80 machines
running FreeBSD and 80 machines running Red Hat 9.  All these machines
have KDE installed (3.1.2-0.9x.2 Red Hat vs 3.1.0).

Unfortunately, if someone logs on to Red Hat and then logs onto
FreeBSD (or vice-versa), things sometimes get wacky in Kicker and the
users get all confused.

The main problem is that the K-Menu and some other stuff disappear
from Kicker.  What sucks even more is that the taskbar disappears and
the users think their applications are "lost" when they minimize
them. Otherwise Kicker becomes a complete wreck and i have to show
them how to put stuff back on it and rearrange things.

Any suggestions for how I could deal with this, short of telling users
to use GNOME under Red Hat 9?
