I suppose that Red Hat's KDE code and FreeBSD's KDE code could be different
versions or at least different configurations/compilations, both working on
the same NFSed home directory (oops, folder!) with the same $KDEDIRS ..

I know there are some issues with running multiple KDE versions on the same
configuration files. Forward is never a problem, but going back a version
can cause problems. :-|

Unless that's already the case, the best bet would probably be for the
sysadmin to deinstall KDE on both systems and compile the same KDE version,
vanilla or patched in the same way from source.
