From: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,4149,1389209,00.asp?kc=EWNWS111903DTX1K0000599 As for the BSDs, McBride said some source code granted to the BSD in 1995 is now in Linux. While this isn't a front-burner item, SCO is currently analyzing the BSD source trees to see exactly what code, which he estimates to be no more than a few dozen but still vital files, were illegally copied from BSD to Linux. Afterward, in a process that he estimates will take six months, SCO will decide what, if any, legal action it will take against the groups and companies that stand behind the BSD operating systems. Isn't this interesting. The BSD license has been reduced to: 'you can do anything you want with this code except to claim that you wrote it'. So, if there is a complaint about copying BSD code into Linux it is that if you can prove that it is BSD then it isn't subject to the restrictions of the GPL. Please IBM buy SCO and put an end to this madness. :-) -- JRT Kde-cafe mailing list - [email protected] http://ofb.biz/lists/listinfo.cgi/kde-cafe DISCLAIMER: The views expressed on this mailinglist are the personal opinions of the author and do not represent OfB.biz: Open for Business, KDE or the author's employer.
