laptop vs desktop computer

Hey guys,

Do any of you own both a laptop and a desktop?  How do you keep your
data synchronized between the two?  

I have Mandrake 9.2 installed on both and and I have a rocking Ad-Hoc
wireless network between the two.  I think my goal is to have the home
directory on both machines more or less synchronized.  I want to be
able to change/update stuff on one and later have the changes uploaded
to the other.

I do not have or desire a central server or any one machine that is
always on...  I think this rules out any solution like CVS although
maybe I could still figure something out with rsync (the latter has
the potential to be dangerous if I rsync in the wrong direction though
or if I make changes on both machines).

Any suggestions for strategies?
