Isn't it Qt's responsibility to manage creating new dialogs on an OS? Ie can't these window creation functions be moved to the Qt methods and Qt can decide how to "play nice" with the OS? It's not wrong in X11, there's no difference between a standalone window and a dialog box as far as X is concerned, except for a hint you give to the window manager.
