If you Why make things so difficult? AFAIK the FreeDesktop policy is *very* liberal and will host just about *any* project. Being hosted under FD.o does not imply any kind of endorsement but will gain the project visibility for people interested in interoperability. So IMHO, no need to split things... Cheers, Navin.
