On linux creating links to binaries is an anti-pattern.
Either you use some packaging distribution or you can use KDE Plasma "Edit
applications" to add an application.
That's the only way to let the system know about applications, or icons won't
show properly in the task  manager, or the menu.

Appimage is the sorry case.

For those cases of binaries manually installed/Appimage, we should offer a "Add
to menu" for executables only.
