The effect also lags when there is no system load. One way to observe this is
with the touchpad gesture, which doesn't start as soon as your fingers move, it
first lags, then goes where it is supposed to be. If you can't see it, I
recommend you compare thr resposinveness of gnome's overview gesture with
kde's.
