Bug ID: 524398
Summary: [Feature Request] Add multi-tab support to Sticky Note
/ Notes widget
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First master
Reported In:
Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: Sticky Note widget
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
SUMMARY / USE CASE
Currently, the Sticky Note widget only provides a single note area per
widget instance. When users have multiple notes or topics to
organize (e.g., Todo lists, temporary code snippets, quick reminders, meeting
notes), keeping everything in a single plain text note
makes the content cluttered, hard to read, and inefficient to manage.
Having to place multiple individual Sticky Note widgets on the
desktop/panel takes up too much screen space. Adding multi-tab (or
multiple pages) support within a single widget would greatly enhance
productivity and organization.
CURRENT LIMITATIONS
- All text is squeezed into one single view, requiring constant scrolling
for long notes.
- Users cannot easily categorize or switch between different topics/tasks
inside the same widget.
- Creating multiple desktop widgets for different notes causes desktop
clutter and layout overhead.
PROPOSED SOLUTION / FEATURE DESCRIPTION
1. Tab Bar / Page Navigation:
- Add a subtle, compact tab bar (or top/bottom tabs / dropdown page
switcher) inside the Sticky Note widget.
- Allow adding new tabs via a "+" button, closing tabs with an "x"
button, and renaming tabs by double-clicking.
2. Independent Content & Formatting per Tab:
- Each tab should maintain its own independent text content, scroll
position, and color/formatting if applicable.
3. Drag & Drop Reordering (Optional Enhancement):
- Ability to drag and reorder tabs easily.
4. Clean Minimalist UI:
- When only one tab exists, the tab bar could optionally be hidden or
stay minimal to preserve the widget's lightweight feel.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Multi-tab notes widgets are widely popular and proven in modern
productivity tools (e.g., Notejot, Sticky Notes with pages, modern
desktop widgets). Adding this feature would make Plasma's built-in Notes
widget significantly more versatile and user-friendly for
daily workflows.
