I just had a reason to inspect my plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc file
and found it had hundreds of items in the ScreenMapping key — all corresponding
to files that lived on the desktop at one moment in time, but were subsequently
moved or deleted.

Something is clearly not working with respect to automatically pruning the
data. Given the known effects on performance as this data grows and grows, I'm
raising the priority again.

Even some kind of background once-a day/once-a-login cleanup service would
probably fix the issue.
