Kate also has an I-Search bar for flexible searching, and regular expression searching with the normal find dialog. So, the only thing left is copy/paste by selecting position + middle click. I have a feeling this doesn't fit with the KDE style guide; it fundamentally alters the mouse + select/paste behaviour. If you really want this, please re-open the bug; it would likely be better implemented KDE-wide if at all.
