getting people to talk about single KDE application releases is not the main 
goal. the main goal is erase the idea that KDE apps and the platform require 
the desktop in some way, to help us move on from being "a desktop" in the 
public's mind to being what we actually are: a platform, apps for desktop, 
tablets and mobile and primary user interfaces (aka "shells") for the same.

that it will get people talking more about Marble for Marble's sake is nice, 
but not a requirement.

so i can understand why you come to such conclusions as above, but the 
argument is starting from the wrong point. :)

not in a title. the release number is a technical detail. that we release a 
compilation is a release engineering thing. we're talking to the public, they 
need to be sold on benefit, not "we have a release engineering event and it is

except that the SC is not a product. it's an engineering artifact. products 
are "KDE Platform" or "Dolphin".

agreed; and that's what was done starting with 4.5.
