Hi, this morning I had this experience. My point is not to go over a well known discussion again. Just to let you know that this still happens and I thought it didn't anymore. I had a meeting this morning with an owner of a little free soft. company from the south of Spain. Like many companies here (not Govs), he was a happy KDE 3 series user, like his other friends from his company (3 more people I think). They waited to install KDE4 because of the bad comments about KDE4.0 They waited until KDE 4.2 and were really unhappy with the result, so they moved to GNOME (Ubuntu). He has an N900 and, like some other companies from the organization I work for, they are interested in Maemo/Qt. I mean that he feel confortable with some technologies we also use and promote. I explain him that I use KDE 4.4 and showed him the laptop I had (with Kubuntu). I also told him about KDE 4.5, what is comming in KDE 4.6 , that have many improvements related with Nepomuk, my/our point of view of the begginning of KDE 4 series...well, you know...the whole story in 20 minutes. He told me he will install the next Kubuntu. Maybe our conversation worked.... I felt a little sad going back home because I thought this issue was something from the past. At least people around me that uses KDE haven't complain lately about this. But I just realised that there are people out there that switched to GNOME and maybe are not comming back because they are not aware of how good we are now and do not know the whole story, or at least our point of view, of the KDE4 birth. I understand we are getting a lot of new users, but these KDE3 users were high quality ones, most of them with some tech skills in some areas (like this guy is). My fear is that there are many more out there. In an event I was invoved in a few weeks ago, I saw a couple of speakers with KDE 3.5. I didn't pay any attention to it until today. Now I wonder why they haven't switched. That's all.... -- Saludos --- Agustín Benito Bethencourt (toscalix) http://abenitobethencourt.blogspot.com http://toscalix.blogspot.com _______________________________________________ This message is from the kde-promo mailing list.
