Hmm, ok here are a few ideas from a quick look at apps on kde.org - of course 
some that are not even featured there might be even more interesting to 
highlight...

- Most of the Edu apps apart from Marble. In particular, Kalzium might be a 
nice one or KStars or KTurtle
- Gwenview maybe? I'm sure most people know it, but maybe not all it can do
- Karbon or Kexi
- Skrooge (though this has had a few articles)
- Tellico (I'm not even quite sure what this does)
- Basket - there is a Platform 4 port, but I'm not quite sure of its status
- Blogilo
- Choqok
- Konversation
- Dragon Player
- JuK
- Kaffeine (recently switched to Phonon? Or was it to VLC directly?)
- Kleopatra (keys and certificates management)

Well, that's quite a few and I'm sure there are plenty that I have missed. 
Does one of those sound like a good match to you?
