A recent example showing the conflict is Kontact Mail vs KMail1.
Maybe you can me communicating here as well.

The progress of the new Kontact (I like to call it Enterprise 5) is very good,
still people need rock solid groupware clients. Right now and for the next
weeks or months the new Kontact in its Desktop and Touch variants will not be
able to provide this rock solid state. It is at least missing speed
optimisations.

So for someone who needs a robust email client now, it can only be the old
KMail1 as in Kontact E35 based on KDE Platform 3. This is still maintained
and even extended because some customers of Kolab Systems, Intevation and KDAB
run it and even fund some of the maintenance work and additional feature they
need urgently.

Take a look at the following email discussions which got triggered by a
negative review of Kontact Mail on kde-pim@:

http://lists.kde.org/?t=132204573200001&r=1&w=2 (FYI. KMail fails utterly in
mail clients comparison)
http://lists.kde.org/?t=132277578900001&r=1&w=2 (State of Kontact Mail)

My suggestion is to more cleary target two separated group
for the communication:
  a) potential contributors, they are friendly and want to advance Kontact.
Of course they include developers and users.
  b) potential customers, which are techs, users or management that is looking
into evaluating or running a production reading system. They can cope
with mide-term plans, but they need to know about them.

Best Regards,
Bernhard
