Heya all,

At Akademy I had a chat with Boudewijn who felt we're loosing the "we do KDE
for the excitement of finally figuring something out" spirit a bit. Others
echoed that thought.

This is a marketing thing - we can help. First of all, we need to create
some messaging which focuses on our passions, why we do what we do. There's
a number of things we can/should do, starting by simply keeping this in mind
when creating things like website(texts) and artwork, esp around the GSOC
for next year. But one specific thing we can do: create a poster which
conveys what KDE is all about! I've done something like that for openSUSE:

https://github.com/openSUSE/artwork/raw/master/posters/we%20believe%20120dpi.png

And I thought we can do the same for KDE. It would have entirely different
art, but the same idea behind it. After thinking, I came up with the
following two possibilities, on which I'd like feedback. Note that it has to
be kept SHORT and SIMPLE!

Last but not least. After writing this, I saw a discussion about a 'KDE
Manifesto' on another list. This is (the relevant part of) the content of
that:

We are a community of technologists, designers, writers and advocates who
work to ensure freedom for all people through our software.

Because of this work we have come to value:
* Open Governance to ensure engagement in our leadership and decision
processes;
* Free Software to ensure the result of our work is available to all people;
Inclusivity to ensure that people of all origins are welcome to join us and
participate;
* Innovation to ensure that new ideas constantly emerge to better serve
people;
* Common Ownership to ensure that we stay united;
* End-User Focus to ensure our work is useful to all people.

I tried to integrate those concepts.

Now /shoot/ :D

WE BELIEVE
==in new things==
We love the excitement of a newly discovered trick, a new way to solve a
problem, a stimulating discussion. We enjoy finding the perfect solution
together and teaching others what we know.

==in sharing==
We believe in Open and Together. Shared ownership within, sharing our code
under a free license with others and sharing decision power means better
results benefiting everyone.

==in people==
KDE is more than technology. We share our love for karaoke, hugs, beer and
good food. We enjoy life besides our intellectual endeavors and we love to
share that with each other in KDE!

A slightly different concept, just substitute the "We believe" and the
headers above the text with the following:
WE LOVE
❤ sharing knowledge

❤ sharing code

❤ sharing friends

The KDE articles of Love
