Morning promo crowd As you've probably heard at the end of September 2012 we've another Randa meeting and we urgently need to start the fund raising campaign for this. The KDE Randa Meetings are a series of Free Software Developer sprints taking place in the village of Randa in the Swiss Alps. The first of these meetings took place in 2009 where 15 developers and contributors from the KDE community met to work on a range of applications. Haus Randa, where the attendees are staying, offers several meeting rooms, bedrooms a kitchen and a dining room so that the whole meeting can take place under one roof. The unique environment of this meeting proved to be not only inspiring, but also provided for a highly productive setting. This is why the next Randa meeting will be held from 21 to 27 September 2012, and will combine the meeting of four different groups: - The KDE Accessibility team and a few GNOME accessibility experts will work on improving ### needs concrete goal### - The KDE Education team ### goal missing #### - The KDE Multimedia and Amarok teams plan to discuss the future of Amarok (e.g. on mobile devices) and work on the Phonon QT Multimedia framework for Qt5 - Th Plasma team will hold their Tokamak 6 meeting to plan the future of the Plasma workspace and use of KDE Frameworks 5 All in all, 35 (?) developers from all over the world will be participating in this year's meeting. At previous events, KDE e.V. and local sponsors helped to pay for their travel costs, accommodation and food, but this year we need your financial support to make this event happen. By donating to this pledge, you will help to pay for the accommodation of our volunteer developers and support the development of accessible, educational Free Software! Thank you! ##### More information and links.... #### About KDE #################################### ### OLD AND FIRST VERSION BELOW #### #################################### The Randa Meetings are a collection of free software developer sprints. In recent years most of the developers and free software contributors came from the KDE community. But we also had some guests from the GNOME project and VLC. The meetings are located in the little village Randa (LINK) in the middle of the Swiss Alps. For one week we occupy the Haus Randa (LINK) which offers us several smaller and bigger meeting rooms, sleeping rooms, a kitchen and dining rooms and a beautiful, relaxing and inspiring surroundings. The number of participants in the last years grew steadily and thus the effort of the local team. It's not an easy task to feed and keep such a big crowd of developers ready to develop great free software. And it's quite unique for a free software developer sprint that everything is at the same place: hacking, discussing, sleeping, eating and writing is just one or two floors up or down. In recent years we found some local sponsors to bring people from all over the world to Randa and let them there create the software for ourselves and our kids. This year it is a bit more difficult and thus we ask you to help us bring this people to the place where software happens. We need another 5000 EUR to pay the tickets for the Swiss trains and the accommodation of the people. In the forthcoming days and weeks you'll see more and more blog posts and news (on e.g. planet.kde.org) about what the people who want to come to Randa plan to work on there. But here is already an outlook about the general goals: Four groups will be in Randa this end of September: - The accessibility group of KDE (including some friends from the GNOME project) (bringing software to people with disabilities) - The KDE education team which is developing great free educational software for almost every operating system - The KDE Multimedia and Amarok team plan to discuss the future of Amarok (e.g. on mobile) and work on the Phonon Qt Multimedia framework for Qt 5 - And last but not least the Plasma team holds its Tokamak 6 meeting in Randa where they discuss the future of the Plasma workspace and their use of the KDE Frameworks 5.
