Thank you for your help Kenny, but that is not it at all.

Jonathan, I have now subscribed you to the task and re-opened it until you can 
read for yourself what went down.

For the record, the announcement went out to three mailing lists, two twitter 
feeds (and is being actively re-tweeted), to KDE's official Facebook account 
and I shared it on KDE, Linux and open source related groups (6 of them), to G
+ (TODO share on KDE, Linux and open source related communities) and two 
subreddits.

Also, it was never an either/or thing on my behalf. I agreed that a story 
would be a good idea, but not today, since it would muddy the main aim, which 
is to get people clicking on links that take them _directly_ to the 
registration form and program.
