To give a bit more context and for the benefit of those who cannot access this 
task, I have compiled the comments from task T5625 in which I clarify with 
more detail what I intended to do.

Note that I did not decide this by myself, but was agreed during the board 
meeting held last weekend.

Hello,

Can you supply us with a date for when you expect the registration to go live? 
We would need to know preferably *before* it actually goes live, so that we 
can promote it beforehand.

Also important is to know when registration closes.

I'm happy with registration going live at any point now.

I'm happy for the rest of the team to simply just announce it and let me know 
when we should close registration.

There are a few issues, but I don't think any of them are particularly 
blocking, so I'm working on fixing those just now.

asap so we can plan accordingly but won't stop people who register late

A dot story may not be necessary. What we aiming for is short and snappy 
messages, one sentence long for Twitter, a couple of sentences long for 
mailing lists, Facebook, G+ and Reddit + links:

"Registration for Akademy 2017 is now open. Make sure you book your place."
"Check out this year's programme: talks, BoF, workshops, and more. Don't miss 
out."

With one or two exclamation marks thrown in for a good measure.

We will also be posting reminders for the next few weeks: "Have you registered 
for Akademy yet?", "Don't forget to book your place at the 2017 Akademy", etc.

This is not "news". It is a call to action. You want people to register. You 
want people to check out the program.

If you give your audience the link to a dot news story (?) that then links to 
the "real" information (the registration page and the program) you are (a) 
creating unnecessary noise (the information for the registration and the 
program is already self-contained and complete -- no extra explanations and 
embellishments needed) and (b) you make your users go through an extra 
unnecessary step to get to where they want to go.

There must have been some kind of miscommunication. Nowhere in the promo plan 
for Akademy or in this task do we (@skadinna and I) mention there will be a 
story as you describe on announcement day (or, indeed later, although it is a 
possibility). I am not sure where you picked that up.

No. I am asking you to not spread them via your own personal Twitter, 
Facebook, G+, (or whatever) accounts until they are announced via the official 
Akademy and KDE accounts. If anybody has done so already it is no biggie, but 
we would prefer that the announcement of the availability of these two items 
started at the official accounts.

Also, according to this task, the registration wasn't ready until last 
Wednesday. I was not sure whether the beta version of the registration form 
would be located at the same URL as the production version. That is why asked 
for confirmation of the URLs.

if all we had been going to do was send an email and tweet we could have 
posted a link to the program weeks ago, but yeah seems like there might have 
been some missed communication

"announce the program" normally means to do dot story with highlights which 
was why we were wanting to do it with registration

not register for.

And, anyway, as I say above, this is not the ONLY thing we're going to do. We

No. That would be counterproductive for the project. But I would like this 
left open until everybody who interested in can read it, if you don't mind.

Also, for the sake of full disclosure, I would like that Jonathan remain as a 
subscriber, as he explicitly expressed interest in the topic.
