Well, my experience makes me see this diffrently; I think
the strength of Gwenview lies in its organisational capacity
as stand-alone app.

I think most users of Gwenview use folders, Gwenview and
Gimp, and are relatively computer literate (not being
pretensious here either!).

I think users of DigiKam use it either because it functions
more like the bundled software they got with their camera
(say Kodak EasyShare), or because their camera has
proprietary driver (not detected as storage media), or both.
I think DigiKam could have more appeal as a sort of
automated image Media Player (read Amarok for images) for
users who think in playlists, collections/albums and who
file their images only by date (rolls?). Maybe this kind of
user isn't very computer sawy, but their parent/friend is a
Linux advert? Then maybe these functions are best integrated
into Konqueror/Nautilus (plug in camera-->"where do you want
to go today"-->"start wizard").

I'm not sure those two trends of workflow can be merged; the
control freak doesn't want things to happen too easily :)

I really base these assuptions on my experience as
IT-manager in a small company plus assistance to
friends/family; making them use Linux isn't that hard if you
use the right tools. Same applies to Windows.
By the way; in that case names and ikons are critical -
renaming Gwenview to "PictureSorter" and DigiKam to
"DigitalCameras" along with a nice "standard" ikon on the
desktop makes the difference (plus some tuning to make the
process of transfer automatic). These "normal" users never
do any batch processing and the biggest problem is to hinder
them in emailing a ton of huge snapshots (should be the task
of email clients?).

Reminds me of another problem, quite common; I've met some
people which complained about their SD/flash cards got
inusable after Win Explorer or other program made changes to
the card, not necessarily reformatting the card, more like
renaming the files or something. Is there a built in
mechanism (in Linux/KiPi/Gwenview) preventing this to happen?
