Are you talking about Gwenview or about kipi-plugins? Gwenview does not
impose a minimum version of exiv2, and I can confirm it builds with
version older than 0.12 (I started using 0.10).

As for kipi-plugins,are you sure 0.12 is *really* necessary? There is
no doubt new versions fixes bugs, but wouldn't kipi-plugins build 
with an older version of exiv2?
