I am currently in the process of (slowly) porting/rewriting the user interface 
of Gwenview for KDE4. The new interface should address some of your problems,
but I will remember to think about dual screen setups (the new interface
won't use docked windows anymore).

Hum... this is really strange. If your using Ubuntu Edgy, you need to open the 
keyboard shortcut dialog and reset the brain-dead shortcuts they
assigned to some actions.

This is really strange. Do you use fam or gamin? Is it a local or a remote
directory.

Hum... I must confess I do not use Gwenview in "detached mode" a lot (I miss
a second monitor for this :-) ). This sounds like an annoying bug in 1.4.
I unfortunately don't have enough time to work on both 1.4 and 2.0 (it's
already really hard to get time for 2.0) so unless someone else fix it, it
will probably remain there.
