Since version 1.4.1, Gwenview uses Exiv2, which is known to be more robust. I suggest you try to install an updated version (1.4.1 or 1.4.2), it's highly probable this will fix your problem. Could you send me an example of "crashing jpeg" to my personal email? I keep a collection of crashing files to do some tests.
