Splash screen - can I kill it?

Hi All.

If K3B fails to start properly for some reason, I'm left with the splash
screen right across the middle of my desktop. I can't kill the k3b process
- I appear to be stuck with it until I restart X.

Does anyone know how to make it go away? The machine is close to unusable
while it's there...

And yes - I *know* I can turn off the splash screen in the config - but I
haven't, and I don't want to restart X (and lose all my sessions) for a
few hours yet...
