Dear all, Thanks for providing such an excellent program and forum to follow. I am not an expert at all, therefore please excuse my dumb question. This probably is not completely within the scope of this forum, but I trust the expertise of the people in this forum, so please accept my apologies in advance if this is not an appropriate question. I have two computers at home (Dell & Compaq) which I had to replace the DVD writers for the third time in 1.5 years. The problem was almost the same everytime. 2 out of 3 times, DVD writer failed to recognize the DVD (printed or blank or burned -/+R) in the drive, whereas it would recognize the CD/CDR and burn it. 1 out of these 3 times, DVD writer just failed to do the opposite, meaning that it would recognize the CDs but not the DVDs. To my understanding, I guess there are different photosensors in the drive to recognize CDs and DVDs and the problems I encounter happen when one of these are out. Now my question is, am I being very unlucky, or this has happened to people here before? This should not have anything to do with the software used either, right? Because I use K3b exclusively for all my needs. There were questions from the manufacturers whether this might be a virus, rootkit, etc. However, since the problem is reproducible with both Windows XP and Linux, I guess this possibility is ruled out, right? And yes, the problem resolves when I replace the DVD writer, and hopefully this wasn't an expensive solution for a simple(?) problem!
