Hi, I'm running a machine with a BIOSTAR M6TLC motherboard (Intel 440LX
chip set), PentiumII-266 CPU, 320 MiB RAM and Debian unstable (uname -a
gives:
Linux victoria 2.6.23 #2 SMP PREEMPT Sun Oct 28 03:41:25 CST 2007 i686
GNU/Linux, and kde 3.5.8).
I recently pulled a Mitsumi CR-4802TE cd-rw drive from this machine and
replaced the secondary master with an MSI CR52 cd-rw drive:
dmesg|grep hdc
ide1: BM-DMA at 0xf008-0xf00f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio
hdc: CD-RW CR52, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdc: selected mode 0x42
hdc: ATAPI 40X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)
hdc: selected mode 0x42
hdc: DMA timeout retry
hdc: timeout waiting for DMA
DMA is enabled, but the above messages might suggest problems with DMA.
When I was running the Mitsumi CR-4802TE drive, I had to disable DMA.
The problem I am experiencing is that sometimes k3b 1.0.4 hangs on
startup leaving the rectangular splash screen and nothing short of a
cold reboot (machine completely powered down) fixes it. On other
occasions, everything works fine and I can burn at 16X.
Does anyone have experience with this drive with 440LX chip set
motherboards and k3b?
I will disable DMA for this drive in /etc/hdparm.conf for the next
reboot but would be interested to hear of anyone else's experiences.
Arthur.
