icons disappeared

Hi ,
i'm using RHL 7.3 with KDE 3.0.  all of sudden all of icons on desktop 
disappeared. inspite of try a lot i can not set it right. only icon 
labels are present on the desktop. the same is the case with panel.
what will be the reason? what should i do to set it right?
