Standard Middle-Click Functionality

I've noticed lately that the middle mouse button is basically unused. As far 
as I can tell it only has any function if you are:
1 - in a text field, in which case it pastes text
2 - hitting a link, in which case it can open in a tab/other window
3 - using it on the taskbar, which can have a functionality you define (I 
don't have one, and don't know if there is a default)

I propose that the middle mouse click, unless defined to do something else 
(the above) be a general 'what's this' or 'more info' button. This should 
solve a couple problems, and also be an easy tool for newbies and 
power-users alike.

If you click on a button or a control, have it pop up an extended tool-tip. 
If there is no defined extended tool-tip, have it pop up the standard 
tool-tip. If there isn't one of those, have it do nothing.

If you click an object (say, a file in Konqueror) have it pop up appropriate 
information. An image might pop-up a large thumbnail and some meta-data. A 
document might pop-up the meta-data and the first ten lines. Whatever is 
appropriate to the content.

This could be of use in every program (that I know of). For example, in a 
vector-drawing program, it could pop up the various statistics of a shape. 
Mostly useful in the file-browser and on tool-bars, but good none-the-less.

I think this solves the problems of having a wasted button, having to use a 
confusing help system all the time (the KDE help system isn't horrible, but 
it isn't the best ever), and having things load slow because they want to 
give too much info (I remember seeing a friend with images appearing in 
pop-ups when he let the mouse hover over a image file. This was great on 
very rare occasions, and just irritating the rest of the time).

Of equal importance, it isn't confusing. I know, people new to computers are 
easily confused, but knowing that they can click with the middle button to 
get help would make a lot of things easier, not more difficult. And, for 
power-users, it'd be nice as well, in case they ever really don't know what 
a button does.
